Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Azure SQL Server DBA to manage, optimize, and secure azure SQL server & cosmos DB on Azure cloud. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, implementing security best practices, and optimizing costs. This role also involves close collaboration with architects and development teams to ensure database designs are robust, scalable, and secure.

Responsibilities

Proactively monitor and analyze database performance using Azure-native and third-party monitoring tools.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, including slow queries, inefficient indexing, and resource contention.
Optimize query performance through indexing strategies, query hints, and stored procedure tuning.
Investigate and resolve deadlocks, blocking, and concurrency issues.
Respond to production incidents by collecting diagnostics, coordinating with development and support teams, and preparing RCA documentation.
Design and document the database security model, including user roles and permissions, in line with least privilege principles and compliance standards.
Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, T-SQL, etc.) for operational tasks.
Implement and maintain backup, restore, and high availability (HA / DR) strategies.
Document SOPs, configurations, and operational guidelines for DevOps and development teams.
Collaborate with architects and developers to review data models, deployments, and design best practices.

R equired Skills & Experience

10+ years of experience as a SQL Server developer and DBA, including 3+ years in an Azure cloud environment.

Good understanding of Azure platform services, including networking, storage, identity / access management, and resource provisioning

Deep knowledge of SQL Server internals, indexing, wait stats, Table partitioning, and locking / blocking.

Strong knowledge of database security principles, including encryption, access control, and compliance.

Familiarity with Azure cost management techniques, including tier selection, autoscaling, and workload optimization

Proficiency in PowerShell, T-SQL scripting, and automation tools.

Experience with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or third-party monitoring tools

Experience managing and administering Azure Cosmos DB, including familiarity with different APIs (e.g., Core (SQL), MongoDB, Cassandra).

Strong understanding of NoSQL data modelling principles and best practices.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software

Engineering, or Equivalent. An MS or PhD in such technical fields is very desirable
