Overview :
We are seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in electrodynamics and ion-optics to support the development of next-generation ion-manipulation technologies. In this role, you will design and execute experiments, perform advanced simulations, and analyze complex datasets to drive product innovation.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Experimental Design & Execution
- Develop detailed experimental plans to evaluate ion-manipulation concepts, subsystem performance, and prototype designs.
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation required for ion-optics testing (e.G., ion sources, ion guides, traps, detectors).
- Conduct experiments to characterize ion behavior under varying electrical, geometric, and environmental conditions.
- Document methodologies, observations, and results thoroughly for internal knowledge sharing and future reference.
2. Simulation & Data Analysis
Perform ion-optics simulations—primarily using SIMION—to model electric field distributions, ion trajectories, transmission efficiencies, and device tuning behavior.Compare and reconcile simulation results with experimental data to identify discrepancies, refine models, and validate design concepts.Use quantitative analysis methods to extract meaningful insights from large datasets, including statistical evaluation and sensitivity analysis.Provide clear, data-driven recommendations that directly inform hardware design decisions and product development milestones.3. Hardware Development Support
Contribute to the design and optimization of ion-manipulation components such as ion guides, ion traps, RF devices, and mass filters.Evaluate the performance of prototype components, propose modifications, and collaborate with engineering teams to implement improvements.Participate in brainstorming sessions and feasibility studies for novel ion-optics architectures and technologies.Ensure designs adhere to performance requirements, manufacturability considerations, and system-level constraints.Required Skills & Qualifications :
Solid foundation in electrodynamics , including understanding of electric fields, RF potentials, charged-particle motion, and multipole field behavior.Hands-on experience with SIMION / Mass Spectrometry for ion-trajectory modeling, field setup, geometry design, and optimization.Required Education : MSc in Physics;(PhD in Physics is preferred)
At least 2 years of experience designing or working with ion-manipulation hardware , such as :
RF or DC ion guides (quadrupoles, hexapoles, octopoles)Linear or 3D ion trapsMass filters and energy filtersIon lenses and beam-shaping components
