Summary :
Looking for a skilled Java Developer with hands-on experience in application instrumentation and observability to support the migration from New Relic to an OpenTelemetry-based stack. The developer will be responsible for integrating OpenTelemetry SDKs into Java-based services (Trax ecosystem), enabling telemetry collection (metrics, traces, logs), and ensuring data continuity during dual-export phases.
Key Responsibilities :
Integrate OpenTelemetry SDK into selected Java services and applications.
Configure telemetry generation for metrics, traces, and logs.
Support dual-export setup to New Relic and Azure Monitor (via OTLP).
Collaborate with the Observability Engineer and DevOps to configure the OpenTelemetry Collector.
Validate data parity, accuracy, and performance against existing New Relic telemetry.
Participate in PoC implementation, phased rollout, and final migration of all Java-based services (~25 apps).
Assist in dashboard and alert testing by ensuring accurate telemetry flow.
Provide ongoing support during UAT, cutover, and knowledge transfer phases.
Required Skills & Experience :
6+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
Strong experience with Java telemetry and logging frameworks (e.g., SLF4J, Logback, Micrometer).
Practical knowledge of OpenTelemetry SDK for Java and OTLP.
Experience with microservices and distributed applications.
Familiarity with New Relic agents, dashboards, and alerts is a plus.
Exposure to Azure Monitor, Grafana, ELK, or Prometheus stacks preferred.
Knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, and JVM internals.
Understanding of DevOps practices, CI / CD pipelines, and cloud environments (Azure preferred).
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve telemetry-related issues across environments (Dev, QA, Prod).
