Data Engineer – BigQuery / Dataform / Looker (Meridian Program)

Location : India (Remote / Hybrid)

Department : Transportation Data & Analytics

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Meridian Program — a strategic, multi-year initiative aimed at modernizing transportation routing and analytics by replacing legacy systems like Roadnet with a governed, scalable architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) .

You’ll play a key role in maintaining current Roadnet data flows while designing and building the next generation governed data models in BigQuery and Looker .

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable data models and transformations in BigQuery using Dataform / dbt .
Maintain and optimize existing Roadnet data pipelines and ensure data continuity post-migration.
Validate and enhance Looker dashboards, ensuring parity between legacy and new systems.
Collaborate with data and business teams to build a governed, modular data architecture .
Automate and orchestrate workflows using Python , Cloud Functions , or Terraform where applicable.
Drive data governance , quality, and stewardship practices across analytics initiatives.

Required Skills (Non-Negotiable)

Expert-level SQL – complex joins, CTEs, incremental logic, and model optimization.

BigQuery – strong hands-on experience building warehouse solutions.

Dataform or dbt – modular, version-controlled transformation pipelines.

Data Architecture & Modeling – scalable, governed design with clear lineage.

Looker – strong experience with dashboards, LookML models, and validations.

Core Stack : SQL + BigQuery + Dataform / dbt + Data Architecture + Looker

Preferred Skills

Python (Intermediate) – for ETL automation, data validations, or API integration.

Cloud Functions (GCP) – automate data checks and trigger workflows.

Terraform – manage infrastructure as code for consistent deployments.

Transportation analytics – understanding routing KPIs and business logic.

Governance mindset – ensuring data reliability and ownership.

Bonus Stack : Python + Cloud Functions + Terraform + Domain Awareness

Ideal Candidate Profile

4+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering roles

Strong background in GCP , BigQuery , and Looker ecosystems

Experience building governed data models and modular transformations

Proven ability to work cross-functionally with data and business stakeholders

Passion for data quality, governance, and scalable architecture
