The
Functional Safety & Cybersecurity Engineer
will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all safety and cybersecurity-related activities within automotive software and controls development projects. The role ensures compliance with global standards such as
ISO 26262 (Functional Safety)
and
ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity)
while collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, including AVL teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and execute
Functional Safety and Cybersecurity activities
as per ISO 26262 and ISO 21434 standards.
Conduct
Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARA) ,
Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) , and define corresponding safety and security concepts.
Develop and maintain
Functional Safety Concepts (FSC) ,
Technical Safety Concepts (TSC) , and
Security Concepts & Requirements .
Ensure compliance with
UNECE WP.29 R155 / R156
for cybersecurity management.
Support activities like
penetration testing ,
fuzz testing ,
vulnerability analysis , and coordinate with relevant test teams.
Perform and document
safety analysis
such as
FMEA ,
FMEDA ,
FTA , and
DFA
for systems and components.
Contribute to
system-level FMEA / FTA
and
hardware safety assessments .
Support
Functional Safety Management (FSM)
activities including safety plans, safety cases, and safety validation reports.
Validate software safety requirements using
MATLAB / Simulink
models (preferred).
Lead and mentor cybersecurity team members, ensuring adherence to project timelines and safety / security goals.
Participate in internal and external
project reviews , audits, and assessments.
Collaborate with customers and suppliers for requirement analysis, definition, and resolution of safety / security issues.
Ensure
development according to ISO 26262 ASIL levels A–D .
Efficiently utilize resources to meet project deliverables.
Competencies / Skills Required
Strong understanding of
ISO 26262
(Part 3 & 4 preferred) – Functional Safety Concepts and Methods.
Hands-on experience with
ISO 21434
and
UNECE WP.29
compliance.
Knowledge of
automotive systems architecture
and embedded software.
Experience with
TARA, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFA, and safety case creation .
Exposure to
threat modeling ,
penetration testing , and
vulnerability management
processes.
Strong
analytical and conceptual skills .
Excellent
project management and leadership
abilities.
Effective
communication and collaboration
skills.
Proficiency in
English
(written and verbal).
Willingness to
travel
as per project needs.
