Job Description – Senior Engineer / Manager – Costing & Planning Department : Project Management / Planning & Cost Control Location : Head Office- Chennai Reporting To : Top Management / Senior Management Role Objective To lead the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control activities for highway and building infrastructure projects, ensuring that project execution aligns with approved budgets, timelines, and contractual requirements. Key Responsibilities Costing & Budget Control - Prepare detailed cost estimates (initial, revised, and final) for highway and building projects.
- Conduct rate analysis for major construction activities, including civil works, structures, and finishing items.
- Evaluate BOQs, item rates, and material consumption norms as per project specifications.
- Monitor project cash flow, budget utilization, and variance analysis (planned vs. actual).
- Ensure alignment between financial progress and physical progress.
- Identify cost overruns, track variations, initiate value engineering proposals to optimize costs and notify possible claims. Planning & Scheduling - Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 / MS Project, covering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Prepare baseline programs and monitor progress against planned timelines.
- Identify critical paths, resource bottlenecks, and propose corrective actions to maintain schedule integrity.
- Conduct weekly and monthly progress reviews with site teams and management.
- Integrate subcontractor schedules into the master program and ensure alignment with project milestones. Contract & MIS Support - Support project teams in claims preparation, EOT, and variation submissions.
- Maintain documentation for cost trends, procurement budgets, and change management.
- Prepare MIS reports : cost reports, progress dashboards, S-curves, manpower & equipment histograms.
- Interface with Finance, Procurement, and Execution teams for coordinated cost control. Forecasting & Reporting - Periodically review and forecast project cost and schedule outcomes.
- Prepare earned value analysis (EVA) to assess project health.
- Generate monthly management reports, highlighting key risks, opportunities, and corrective actions. Required Skills & Competencies ➢ Strong knowledge of highway / building construction methodologies, specifications, and cost components. ➢ Expertise in Primavera P6, MS Excel (advanced), AutoCAD, and ERP systems (SAP). ➢ Proficiency in BOQ analysis, rate derivation, and budgeting techniques. ➢ Excellent analytical, coordination, and communication skills. ➢ Understanding of contractual clauses, price variation, and EPC / HAM / BOT project structures. Qualifications & Experience - B.E. / B.Tech. in Civil Engineering (mandatory) - M.E. / M.Tech. in Construction Management / Project Planning – preferred - Minimum 12–15 years of experience in planning, costing, and budgeting for Highway / Building / Infrastructure projects - Experience in NHAI / State PWD / Government infrastructure projects preferred Key Deliverables - Approved Baseline & Revised Project Schedules.
