Job Purpose
The ATCO is responsible for the smooth functioning of radio and airfield operations at Air India's Flying Training Organization (FTO) and for maintaining high safety standards. This includes managing ATC operations and assisting cadet pilots with theoretical and practical knowledge in civil aviation radio telephony and meteorology. The ATCO also supports the Senior ATCO in collecting, compiling, and reporting data in accordance with FTO procedures.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure efficient and safe functioning of ATC operations, navigational aids, and safety services.
- Establish and monitor ATC procedures and SOPs for managing air traffic at the airfield.
- Ensure accurate and complete promulgation of operational data to DGCA India, in compliance with the approved flying training manual and applicable aircraft rules and regulations.
- Preserve critical documents and data necessary to assist search and rescue efforts during emergencies or missing aircraft scenarios.
- Lead implementation and optimal utilization of digital systems for ATC operations.
- Manage all operational ATC functions within the FTO and maintain all required documentation in accordance with aviation norms.
- Define and execute airfield watch hours in line with training schedules, ensuring strict compliance.
- Coordinate with airfield operators for support functions including instrument and night flying.
- Maintain effective liaison with neighboring airfields and Area Control Centres to facilitate safe training aircraft movement.
- Obtain daily clearances from neighboring ATCs and ensure compliance with FIC / ADC requirements.
- Assist the Flight Safety Team in conducting mock drills and internal audits.
- Provide regular debriefs and training to staff and cadets regarding ATC management and aviation regulations (CARs).
- Ensure timely submission of dispatch forms after each flight.
- Acquire and maintain meteorological and navigational data from neighboring airfields to support aircraft safety.
- Ensure firefighting and medical emergency facilities meet FTO compliance requirements.
- Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and safety protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, either as part of regular responsibilities or standalone projects, as agreed with the reporting officer and HR.

Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, or EngineeringExperience
Minimum 2+ years as an Air Traffic Controller in Defense, AAI, FTO, or civil establishmentsAviation background with a valid RTR (Radio Telephony Restricted) license preferredExperience in defining SOPs for air traffic operationsNo accidents or incidents in the last 3 years preferredSkills Required
