Assistant Manager – PU Product Development (R&D)

Position Overview

The Assistant Manager – PU Product Development will be responsible for leading research and development activities in Polyurethane (PU) applications, including flexible foam, rigid foam, and specialty PU systems. The role involves formulation development, application testing, customer trials, and supporting innovation initiatives aligned with the company’s product roadmap.

This position requires strong technical knowledge in PU chemistry, hands-on formulation expertise, and experience in developing material solutions for automotive, furniture, appliances, footwear, and insulation applications.

Key Responsibilities

1. PU Product Development – Flexible Foam

Lead formulation development for Flexible PU Foams used in furniture and automotive seating applications.

Expertise in Cold Cure Molding , Molded Foam, and Memory Foam for batch and molded foam applications.

Conduct R&D experiments, optimize formulations, and improve product performance through systematic trials.

2. PU Product Development – Rigid Foam

Develop formulations for Rigid PU Foam applications including :

Continuous & discontinuous panel foams

Thermoware foams

Appliance insulation foams

Work with various blowing agents and evaluate new blowing agent technologies for improved processability and performance.

3. Application Testing & Validation

Perform comprehensive application testing for both flexible and rigid foam systems .

Evaluate physical, mechanical, and thermal properties to meet customer and industry standards.

Document results, prepare technical reports, and ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

4. Footwear PU Systems & Prepolymer Projects

Support development of Footwear PU Systems and manage prepolymer-related projects.

Coordinate testing activities with institutions such as CLRI and conduct customer trials with key footwear manufacturers.

5. Polymeric Polyol & Raw Material Development

Work on Polymeric Polyol Synthesis , formulation optimization, and compatibility study with isocyanates.

Collaborate with raw material partners such as Covestro and other expanded suppliers for innovative development.

6. Customer Support & Technical Service

Conduct product trials at customer sites and troubleshoot application issues.

Provide technical presentations, documentation, and recommendations to internal teams and customers.

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of PU chemistry, foam formulation, and application processes.

Hands-on experience with flexible & rigid foam machinery, including moulding and continuous / discontinuous panel lines.

Ability to analyze physical / mechanical properties and interpret test data.

Exposure to blowing agents, polymeric polyol systems, prepolymers, and additives.

Good project management, documentation, and communication skills.

Ability to independently lead R&D trials and customer interactions.

Experience

Min 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in PU Product Development, Foam R&D, or Polymer Sciences.
