Position Overview :
LearningMate is seeking a qualified and experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to author High School Science (Biology) assessment items. This role is crucial for developing a robust test bank intended for state testing across multiple US states.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment Item Authoring : Author high-quality, SME-authored non-multiple-choice assessment items for the test bank, focusing exclusively on High School Biology (Grade 9) content.
- Use the provided AI tools to generate assessment items and then review and correct them as needed to align with the state standard and meet the DOK rigor requirements.
- Item Type & Complexity : Author a mix of assessment question types, including multiple-choice, multiple-select, and short-answer questions.
- Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Alignment : Ensure that all SME-authored non-multiple-choice assessment items align with the specified DOK levels : 50% DOK Level 2 and 50% DOK Level 3 .
- Standards & Guidelines Adherence : Adhere strictly to K12 writing and style guidelines specific to Science content development on LearningMate’s Canvas instance. Ensure proper inclusion of relevant alt text for any images or diagrams used in the assessment items.
- Quality Assurance (QA) & Revisions : Address and fix any QA issues related to content found on LearningMate’s Canvas instance. Perform content fixes identified by the team in their instance by making revisions in the LearningMate Canvas instance and uploading revised packages via the designated process.
- Technical Arts Requirement : Collaborate with the team on items that require Technical Arts support (such as complex diagrams or simulations). Create mock-ups of images and diagrams, as well as provide data tables for assessment items as required. Fill necessary trackers for image requirements.
Qualifications : Required :
Proven expertise as a Subject Matter Expert, specifically in High School Biology (Grade 9 content level).Demonstrated experience in authoring high-quality, rigorous assessment items for state or standardized testing.Strong understanding of Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels and experience authoring questions at DOK Level 2 and DOK Level 3 .Familiarity with various question types, including multiple-choice, multiple-select, and short-answer, fill the blanks, matching list, choice matrix, etc .High accuracy and turnaround time, as this is a very short project.Ability to work within the Canvas LMS environment and follow specific content delivery requirements.Preferred :
Experience in developing assessments for US state testing in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, California, and / or Tennessee.Familiarity with accessibility standards as they relate to state requirements and the Canvas platform.Prior experience in remote or project-based assessment development roles.
