Position Summary :
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented BUR Administrator (Backup & Recovery Administrator) to manage, monitor, and optimize our enterprise backup, restore, and disaster recovery systems.
The ideal candidate will ensure that organizational data is securely backed up, efficiently stored, and recoverable within defined SLAs.
This role requires hands-on expertise in backup technologies, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams.
Key Responsibilities :
- Administer, configure, and maintain backup and recovery solutions across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Perform daily monitoring of backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and ensure successful completion.
- Execute data restore requests for servers, applications, databases, and user data as per SLA agreements.
- Manage retention policies, storage utilization, and archival processes to optimize backup performance.
- Support the development, implementation, and testing of the organizations disaster recovery (DR) strategy.
- Conduct periodic DR drills, document outcomes, and recommend improvements.
- Ensure readiness of recovery systems and adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.
- Configure backup infrastructure including media servers, storage devices, cloud backup endpoints, and agents.
- Optimize backup schedules, storage tiering, and replication strategies to enhance reliability and cost-efficiency.
- Evaluate system performance, identify weaknesses, and propose enhancements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of backup configurations, workflows, procedures, policies, and DR plans.
- Generate regular reports on backup success rates, capacity utilization, trends, and audit logs.
- Support internal and external audits with relevant backup logs and compliance documentation.
- Ensure that all backup and restore processes meet compliance, retention, and data protection standards (ISO, GDPR, HIPAA, etc., based on industry).
- Implement encryption, access controls, and secure handling of backup media.
- Work with security teams to mitigate vulnerabilities and strengthen data protection.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, database, network, and cloud teams to align backup strategies with operational needs.
- Provide technical support for backup-related issues and guide junior team members.
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical backup and restore requests.
Required Qualifications & Skills :
Education & Experience :
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).36+ years of experience in backup administration in medium to large-scale environments.Technical Skills :
Hands-on experience with one or more backup / DR tools such as : Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, CommVault, Rubrik, Cohesity, IBM Spectrum, Azure Backup, AWS Backup, etc.Strong knowledge of :a. Storage systems (SAN / NAS)
b. Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
c. Windows & Linux server environments
d. Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native backup tools
