About the Role
We are seeking a Senior RF Engineer with specialized experience in RF communications and control systems for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and other military platforms. This role requires a strong background in RF telecommunication design, antenna systems, RF front-end (RFFE) development, and control system integration for tactical environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, simulation, integration, and validation of RF and wireless subsystems, ensuring robust and secure communication in GPS-challenged, hostile, and dynamic defence scenarios. Experience with MIL-grade standards, EMI / EMC validation, and OTA testing is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and integration of RF communication platforms (e.g., 4G / 5G, Wi-Fi, GPS / GNSS, Bluetooth) into defence-grade UGVs and autonomous systems.
- Design and simulate antennas, matching networks, and RF front-end modules using industry-standard tools (e.g., HFSS, CST, ADS).
- Perform link budget, power budget, and range analysis for tactical wireless systems under military operating conditions.
- Develop and validate transceiver modules for rugged platforms ensuring reliable data links under jamming / interference threats.
- Create and review circuit schematics, and collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers for optimal layout, thermal, and shielding integration.
- Conduct EMI / EMC simulations and validations in accordance with MIL-STD and ISO guidelines.
- Oversee lab testing, bench validation.
- Execute Over-the-Air (OTA) testing in shielded chambers for wireless compliance, range validation, and RF coexistence studies.
- Integrate RF communication systems with onboard control systems and vehicle autonomy stacks.
- Work with communication protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and Ethernet for system-level integration.
- Contribute to control system design and integration for remote vehicle operation, telemetry, and command systems.
Required Qualifications & Skills
B.E. / B.Tech or M.E. / M.Tech in Electronics & Communications, RF Engineering, or equivalent.5+ years of experience in RF system design, preferably for military or aerospace applications.Proven track record in antenna design, RFFE development, and multi-protocol wireless system design.Deep expertise in RF circuit design and simulation tools : HFSS, CST Studio Suite, ADS, OrCAD.Experience in GNSS systems, RF power amplifiers, filters, and impedance-matching networks.Proficient with test and measurement equipment.Hands-on experience in OTA chamber testing, EMI / EMC pre-compliance and full compliance evaluations.Familiarity with military standards (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, etc.) and quality systems (ISO, AS9100).Strong command over control systems design, including telemetry integration, signal flow mapping, and feedback loop implementation.
