Merchandise Manager - Buying & Planning

Location : Bangalore, India

Experience : 12–18 years

Budget : Up to ₹25 LPA

Key Responsibilities

Merchandise Strategy & Planning

  • Define and implement the overall merchandise, buying, and planning strategy aligned with brand and business objectives.
  • Drive assortment and range planning across retail, MBO, and e-commerce channels.
  • Lead OTB planning and ensure effective utilization of buying budgets.

Buying & Product Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee the complete buying process—product selection, vendor negotiations, pricing, and allocations.
  • Ensure optimal inventory flow and timely replenishment across channels.
  • Partner with design, marketing, and retail teams to build compelling and consumer-relevant product stories.
  • Sales & Inventory Optimization

  • Monitor sales performance, stock health, and product lifecycle to maximize sell-through and margin.
  • Manage markdowns, discounting strategies, and inventory liquidation effectively.
  • Use data-driven insights to optimize inventory and strengthen category performance.
  • Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and inspire a growing team of buyers, planners, and analysts (team size 10–15+).
  • Build a high-performance culture with clear goals, mentoring, and development programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders—Retail Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance—for seamless execution.
  • Business Analytics & Growth

  • Review seasonal merchandise performance and KPIs including sell-through, GMROI, margin, and inventory turns.
  • Provide actionable insights for year-on-year growth, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Lead business reviews and support management in strategic decision-making.
  • Requirements

  • 12–18 years of proven experience in merchandising, buying, and planning within retail, sportswear, fashion, or lifestyle industries.
  • Deep expertise in OTB planning, category management, and inventory control.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing high-performing merchandising teams.
  • Data-driven with a strong analytical and commercial mindset.
  • Hands-on exposure to both offline retail and e-commerce ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation abilities.
