Founding Engineer - React Native

About Role :

We're looking for a Founding Engineer to own Meli's mobile experience end-to-end. You'll work closely with our founders and creative team to turn product ideas into features that are fast, delightful, and emotionally human.

What You'll Do :

1. Architect, build, and maintain our React Native app for iOS and Android.

2. Collaborate with design, product, and creative leads to craft a world-class mobile experience.

3. Implement backend integrations and APIs for real-time photo sharing, reactions, and notifications.

4. Make critical technology and architecture decisions balancing speed, scalability, and stability.

5. Build reusable UI components and ensure pixel-perfect execution across devices.

6. Continuously refine performance, reliability, and security of the mobile stack.

7. Contribute to early DevOps, CI / CD, and deployment workflows (Cloudflare, Vercel, AWS, or similar).

What We're Looking For?

1. 5+ years of software development experience, ideally with early-stage or high-growth consumer apps.

2. Strong expertise in React Native and TypeScript; familiarity with Expo, React Navigation, and native bridges.

3. Experience shipping apps to the App Store and / or Play Store.

4. Comfortable designing and integrating RESTful or GraphQL APIs.

5. Solid understanding of data models and cloud storage (Firebase, PostgreSQL, or similar).

6. Proficient in writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

7. Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines and version control (Git / GitHub Actions).

8. Strong UX intuition and attention to detail.

9. Collaborative, self-directed, and energized by working in a fast-moving, small team.

Nice to Have :

1. Experience with native modules (Swift / Objective-C or Kotlin / Java).

2. Familiarity with Cloudflare, AWS, or Vercel for hosting and media delivery.

3. Experience implementing analytics, push notifications, or in-app events.

4. Optimizing mobile performance across devices.

5. Personal interest in photography, memory-keeping, or social apps.
