DIRECT TAX PROFESSIONAL

VA Tech Wabag is seeking an accomplished professional to lead the Direct Tax function across India, the Middle East, and Africa. This role demands extensive knowledge of direct Tax, International taxation (TP), Tax Audit, Advance Tax, TDS and managing & closure of litigations in time in the respective regions. The ideal candidate will oversee compliance, transactional tax management, audits, and process improvements, ensuring timely and accurate adherence to tax laws while optimizing business efficiency.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will manage all applicable taxes i.e. Direct Tax, TP, Advance Tax, WHT / TDS Compliance, Directly responsible for tax advisory, assessments, litigation, Appeal.

RESPONSIBILITIES – KEY FOCUS WILL BE

Tax Planning Strategy :

Develop and drive tax planning strategies for the Business Units (BU) to maximize tax savings and benefits for current business transactions and future plans. Collaborate with the business to identify and implement tax optimization opportunities. Ensure effective management of tax controversies.

Documentation and Information Management :

Lead the team in gathering necessary documentation and information for tax returns, tax planning, tax outflow forecasts, and collaborate with the business to plan for and implement tax-saving strategies.

Assessments, Appeal & In time litigations management :

Coordinate with the team, AO & Commissioner for the timely completion of assessments and follow-ups. Ensure timely completion all litigations within deadlines.

Timely and Compliant Tax Filings including payment (ITR, Adv Tax, TP) :

Ensure the timely and accurate filing of direct taxes, in compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Manage the computation and timely payment of Advance Tax. Prepare Transfer Pricing (TP) reports and support TP auditors during assessments.

Tax Optimization for International Projects :

Analyze various tax treaties and Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements (DTAAs) to assess the taxability of income, and finally aim to manage tax optimization across various international projects and ensure minimize the company’s overall tax liability in compliance with cross-border tax regulations.

Impact of Direct Tax Laws :

Monitor changes in Direct tax laws and assess their impact on business operations, ensuring that direct tax implications are appropriately considered in all business decisions.

Skills and Experience

CA with 15-18 years of experience in tax department of any multinational Company. Exposure in consulting background having relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience in EPC sector will be added advantage.

In-depth knowledge of Direct Taxes Specially Assessment, Appeal, TP Assessment, ITR, Tax Audit.

Strong written and oral communication skill.

Experience of representation before tax authorities.

Hands on experience of dealing with auditors and tax consultants.

Strong business focus and ability to team up with internal stake holders.
