Key Responsibilities :
1. Pre-Anesthesia Assessment
- Evaluate cardiac surgical patients pre-operatively for anesthesia fitness.
- Discuss anesthetic risks and obtain informed consent.
- Optimize comorbidities including cardiac function, coagulation, and ventilation status.
2. Intraoperative Anesthesia Management
Administer and monitor anesthesia for :Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)Valve replacements / repairsCongenital heart defect surgeriesAortic and major vascular proceduresThoracic surgeries (VATS, thoracotomies)Manage patients on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), off-pump, and ECMO (if trained).Perform invasive line placements (arterial lines, CVP, PA catheter), TEE (if trained), and manage hemodynamic monitoring.Ensure strict asepsis and adherence to cardiac anesthesia protocols.3. Postoperative & ICU Management
Provide immediate post-operative care in the Cardiothoracic ICU.Manage pain relief, ventilation, hemodynamic support, and complications.Collaborate with cardiac surgeons and intensivists for continuity of care.4. Emergency Services
Respond to intra-hospital cardiac emergencies and code blue situations.Provide anesthesia for emergency cardiac and thoracic surgeries as required.5. Academic & Research (for teaching hospitals)
Participate in teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and students.Attend and contribute to academic activities such as CMEs, case discussions, journal clubs.Engage in research, data collection, and publications.Skills Required
