About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative System Designer to join our agile delivery teams. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, SAFe-aligned environment and enjoys translating business features into actionable, testable user stories. You’ll work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, developers, and testers to ensure the successful design and delivery of complex systems.
This role requires candidates to have Australian citizenship with preference to those who has clearance or is in the process of obtaining a clearance.
Key Responsibilities
Break down high-level features into well-defined, testable user stories with clear acceptance criteria
Lead and facilitate backlog refinement sessions with developers and testers
Collaborate with Product Owners to understand feature intent and ensure alignment with business goals
Work closely with Scrum Masters to support agile ceremonies and team processes
Analyse system interactions, data flows, and dependencies to inform design decisions
Create and maintain technical design documentation including system flows, API specs, and data mappings
Produce visual models such as process flows, sequence diagrams, and architecture diagrams
Use Jira or Azure DevOps (ADO) to manage user stories, documentation, and sprint progress
Core Competencies & Agile Skills
User Story Creation & Elaboration : Expert in translating features into detailed, testable user stories with acceptance criteria
SAFe & SCRUM Expertise : Deep understanding of Agile ceremonies, roles, and artefacts including PI Planning, Sprint Planning, and Retrospectives
Backlog Refinement : Skilled in leading refinement sessions to ensure stories are sprint-ready
Stakeholder Collaboration : Strong ability to work across roles—Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, and Testers—to ensure shared understanding and delivery alignment
Technical & Documentation Skills
Technical Design Documentation : Proficient in documenting system behaviours, APIs, data mappings, and integration points
System Analysis : Strong analytical skills to assess the impact of new stories on existing systems and identify potential risks
Diagramming & Modelling : Skilled in tools like Visio, Lucidchart, or
Agile Tooling : Daily user of Jira or Azure DevOps (ADO) for backlog management and documentation
Soft Skills
Exceptional Communication : Able to bridge the gap between business and technical teams with clarity and precision
Collaborative Mindset : A team player who thrives in cross-functional environments and supports team success
Attention to Detail : Meticulous in writing user stories and technical documentation to avoid ambiguity
Inquisitive Nature & Problem-Solving : Naturally curious and analytical, with a drive to uncover hidden requirements and solve complex challenges
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Agile certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Practitioner, or equivalent are highly desirable
