Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering (Backend) to lead from the front, driving architecture decisions, writing production-grade code, unblocking teams during complex challenges, and ensuring scalability and reliability of our systems. This role is both strategic and technical, requiring direct collaboration with the CTO, mentoring backend engineers, and acting as the technical face for client engagements.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Actively contribute to the codebase and solve critical backend issues.
  • Manage and mentor backend engineers through code reviews, performance evaluations, and 1 : 1s.
  • Drive backend architecture design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership in client-facing engagements.
  • Ensure backend systems remain secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver high-impact features.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards across the company.

What Were Looking For :

  • Tech-driven leader with a strong passion for coding and system design.
  • Experience in IT services with direct client involvement (a must).
  • Strong proficiency in backend technologies (Node.js, Express, NestJS, SQL / NoSQL databases).
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure) and microservices architecture.
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI / CD, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Interest in AI, automation, or developer productivity tools is a plus.
