Job description

Role Overview :

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Project Intern to support our development efforts in camera integration, medical image registration, and navigated tool design for advanced surgical navigation systems. This role involves hands-on development, testing, and documentation of real-time navigation algorithms and hardware-software integration for applications in Spine, Cranial and Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA).

Key Responsibilities :

  • Work on C++ and Python codebases to support integration of stereo cameras for intraoperative navigation.
  • Implement and evaluate medical image registration algorithms.
  • Assist in designing rigid body geometries for navigated surgical tools specific to Spine, Cranial and TKA procedures.
  • Participate in clinical testing and evaluation of image registration and tracking workflows.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation : Requirements Specifications,Testing Protocols & Release Notes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and clinical engineering to translate clinical needs into product features.

Qualifications : Education :

  • Final-year student or recent graduate of B.E. / B.Tech. / M.E. / M.Tech. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Programming : Proficient in C++ and Python
  • Mathematics : Strong foundation in Fundamentals of Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics
  • Understanding of medical imaging, coordinate systems, and 2D & 3D Geometry & Transformations.
  • Familiarity with libraries / tools such as OpenCV, VTK, ITK, or similar frameworks is a plus
  • Soft Skills :

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Learning Opportunities :

  • Exposure to real-world surgical navigation systems and clinical environments.
  • Hands-on experience in camera integration, and navigated tool design.
  • Mentorship from an interdisciplinary team of engineer and researchers.
  • Understanding the pipeline of clinical validation, regulatory requirements, and medtech product lifecycle.

    On-site at IIT Madras

    Duration : 6 months

    Note : Candidates demonstrating strong performance during the internship will be considered for full-time employment opportunities.
