Position : Design Manager – Electrical (Solar EPC)

Location : Hyderabad

Experience : Minimum 10+ years (Solar EPC Industry)

Job Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager – Electrical to lead the design and engineering activities for utility-scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical design, project engineering, and team leadership within the Solar EPC or consultancy domain.

Key Responsibilities :

DC Side Design & Engineering :

  • Design medium and large-scale Solar PV Power Plants with cost-optimized layouts.
  • Conduct energy yield simulations using PVsyst.
  • Select appropriate PV module types, ratings, and installation methods with optimized DC plant sizing.
  • Perform shading analysis using tools like SketchUp.
  • Prepare DC, AC, and Auxiliary Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and related layout designs using 3D CAD tools.
  • Develop plant layout drawings, including GA, PV array, DC cable routing, grouping, and service layouts.
  • Perform earthing calculations (as per IEEE, BS, IS standards) and lightning risk assessments (as per IEC, IEEE).
  • Size and select DC / AC cables, protection devices (fuses, SPDs, SCBs), and other electrical components in compliance with standards.
  • Review and validate inverter, HT panel, and IDT component schematics, BOQ, and site accessories.
  • Prepare technical documentation, design memoranda, and equipment sizing checklists.
  • Calculate auxiliary load (AC & DC) requirements and prepare schematic diagrams.
  • Support pre-dispatch inspections, pre-commissioning tests, and coordination for inverter testing and commissioning.
  • Develop SCADA architecture and I / O (DI, DO, AI) lists.

HV Side Design & Engineering :

  • Design and detail Switchyard SLDs and layouts for ACDB / DCDB.
  • Prepare and review Switchyard layouts (plan, sectional, earthing, lighting, DSLP, cable trench, illumination, etc.).
  • Perform substation calculations – short circuit forces, CT / VT sizing, earthing mat, DSLP, battery sizing, etc.
  • Review datasheets and GA drawings for transformers, switchyard equipment, panels, cables, and SCADA systems.
  • Prepare design memoranda, technical parameters, and customer specifications.
  • Carry out primary engineering based on customer requirements.
  • Design control and relay panel schematics, interlocking logic diagrams, and transmission line routing.
  • Develop technical specifications and checklists for substation components.

    • Skills & Competencies :

  • Proven ability to lead internal design teams and manage multiple solar design projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of DC / AC / HV engineering standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC, IS).
  • Proficiency in PV Syst, SketchUp, AutoCAD, MS Office; exposure to ETAP, Dialux, CYMCAP, WINIGS, SKM tools is an advantage.
  • Hands-on experience in on-site DC erection and commissioning of solar plants.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.

    • Preferred Candidate Profile :

  • Education : BE / B.Tech / ME / M.Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
  • Experience : Minimum 10+ years of experience in Electrical Design within Solar EPC projects.
  • Strong technical acumen, leadership, and documentation skills.
