Job Description – Ex-Customs Officer

About the Role

MS Clinical Research Pvt Ltd (MSCR) is a leading clinical research organization specializing in dermatology, microbiology, preclinical, NGS, and cosmetic testing. We regularly import cosmetic products, raw materials, and study kits for testing and R&D purposes (non-commercial use) .

We are looking for an Ex-Customs Officer to manage end-to-end imports, customs clearances, and regulatory coordination . The ideal candidate will leverage their customs experience to ensure smooth and timely movement of shipments, accurate documentation, and strong compliance with Indian import / export regulations. This role is critical to streamline operations without requiring senior management involvement.

Key Responsibilities

Customs & Import Coordination

  • Prepare and manage import documentation : invoices, packing lists, COO, airway bills, test-use declaration letters, etc.
  • Liaise with Customs House Agents (CHAs), shipping lines, courier companies, and customs officials for clearance.
  • Handle cosmetic imports (non-commercial use) by ensuring accurate declarations and compliance.
  • Track shipments end-to-end and provide timely status updates to internal teams.
  • Coordinate with finance team on duty payments and clearance costs.

Regulatory Support

  • Work with CDSCO, Port Health Authority, and other regulators for NOCs / approvals when required.
  • Maintain a reference library of HS codes, import regulations, and clearance files for efficiency in future shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with DGFT, Customs Act, GST, and EXIM policy relevant to research materials.
  • Operational Support

  • Support procurement of consumables, lab supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain import & logistics database (Excel / Zoho) for shipment history, clearance times, and cost reports.
  • Suggest process improvements to reduce delays and optimize costs.
  • Requirements

  • Retired / Ex-Customs Officer (Group A / B) with hands-on experience in customs operations, investigations, or policy enforcement.
  • Strong knowledge of import / export documentation, HS codes, customs duties, and non-commercial import procedures .
  • Experience handling clearances in pharma, clinical research, CRO, medical devices, or FMCG sectors is preferred.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with CHAs and customs authorities independently.
  • Good communication skills in English + Hindi / local language .
  • Proficiency with MS Office / Excel ; familiarity with Zoho / logistics tools is an advantage.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
