Job Description - HOD (Pharmacognosy Department)
Position : Head of Department - Pharmacognosy
Department : Pharmacognosy
Reporting To : Principal / Dean
Location : Cheran College of Pharmacy - Coimbatore
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership
- Plan, implement, and monitor Pharmacognosy theory and practical sessions.
- Ensure delivery of curriculum as per PCI / University guidelines.
- Prepare timetables, allocate workload, and maintain academic discipline.
- Laboratory & Research Management
- Oversee Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, and Herbal Drug Technology labs.
- Ensure availability, calibration, and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Guide research in natural products, herbal formulations, and plant analysis.
- Support faculty and students in publishing research papers.
- Faculty Supervision
- Monitor teaching quality and mentor faculty members.
- Conduct departmental meetings, FDPs, workshops, and seminars.
- Evaluate faculty performance and ensure academic documentation.
- Student Development
- Guide students in projects, dissertations, and plant identification work.
- Promote field visits, herbarium preparation, and industrial exposure.
- Ensure student attendance, discipline, and timely assessments.
- Compliance & Administration
- Maintain departmental files, lab records, SOPs, and stock registers.
- Ensure compliance with PCI, NAAC, NBA, and University inspection guidelines.
- Prepare departmental reports, AQAR data, and accreditation documents.
- Academic Quality & Innovation
- Introduce value-added courses, workshops, and skill development programs.
- Enhance teaching-learning through ICT tools and innovative methods.
Qualification & Experience
M.Pharm / Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy / Phytochemistry / Natural Products.Minimum 5-10 years academic experience.Strong skills in leadership, research guidance, and departmental administration.Skills Required
