Role & responsibilities :
- Tax Compliance and Reporting :
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of indirect tax returns (such as VAT, GST, and customs declarations).
- Maintain up-to-date records of transactions and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Prepare and submit tax reports to relevant authorities.
- Tax Planning and Strategy :
- Advise on structuring transactions in a tax-efficient manner.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in indirect tax laws and regulations to recommend strategic approaches for the business.
- Audit and Risk Management :
- Review internal processes and transactions to minimize the risk of indirect tax errors.
- Handle indirect tax audits from tax authorities and respond to any queries or investigations.
- Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate the risk of tax penalties.
- Customs and Import / Export Compliance :
- Ensure compliance with customs duties and other relevant taxes for imports and exports.
- Maintain accurate records of international transactions and coordinate with customs authorities.
- Advisory on Contracts and Pricing :
- Provide guidance on indirect tax implications for various contracts, including sales, procurement, and international transactions.
- Advise on pricing strategies that comply with tax regulations and optimize tax outcomes.
- Training and Awareness :
- Train internal teams on indirect tax compliance and changes in the tax landscape.
- Ensure that relevant departments (such as finance, procurement, and sales) are aware of indirect tax issues impacting their operations.
- Liaison with Authorities :
- Act as the main point of contact with tax authorities for all indirect tax matters.
- Participate in discussions or negotiations with tax authorities regarding assessments, disputes, or refunds.
- Reconciliation and Documentation :
- Ensure that tax-related data is accurately reconciled in the company's financial records.
- Maintain proper documentation to substantiate the company's tax position in case of audits or disputes.
- Implementation of New Tax Laws :
- Oversee the implementation of new indirect tax laws or changes to existing laws within the organization.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as IT or finance, to ensure system updates align with tax changes.
