Uber - Data Engineering Manager II - Big Data Technologies

As an Engineering Manager on the FinTech Data Engineering team, you will :

• Lead a high-performing engineering team in designing, implementing, and scaling data solutions that drive analytics, reporting, and business insights.
• Provide technical leadership in architecting, building, testing, releasing, and monitoring data pipelines, models, and workflows.
• Work closely with product managers, data scientists, ML engineers, and other stakeholders to define the vision and roadmap for core services analytics and data products.
• Identify strategically important problems, inefficiencies, or opportunities for meaningful improvement, and drive alignment across teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence, including best practices in coding, design, documentation, testing, monitoring, and deployment of next-generation fintech systems.
• Serve as a role model by demonstrating good judgment, responsibility, and accountability; guide the team in effective project planning, execution, and prioritization.
• Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture, while helping teams navigate differences of opinion and reach consensus effectively.
• Actively identify and solve engineering and business challenges with autonomy, ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable data products on time and within Qualifications :
• Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager, leading high-performing teams in designing, building, and delivering critical data solutions at scale.
• Extensive experience managing and mentoring engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and drive adoption of data solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work with product management and business partners to define vision, roadmap, and delivery priorities for analytics, reporting, and data platforms.
• Deep technical expertise in distributed data systems, including ETL, logging, storage, data quality, and monitoring.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality data products on time and within scope, while driving engineering best practices across the team.
• Passionate about coaching and developing engineers, creating an environment that fosters learning, accountability, and innovation.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related Qualifications :
• Experience creating and leading high-performing engineering teams, including mentoring and developing talent.
• Deep expertise in data analytics, data modeling, and big data architectures.
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems and data storage solutions, including fault-tolerant and multi-datacenter / cloud architectures.
• Experience in FinTech or Payments industries, including projects with complex regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Strong technical background with big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Spark, etc.), real-time data ingestion, and stream processing.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale, reliable, and performant data platforms.
• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
