Position Details :

We are seeking a dynamic Sustainability Lead to join our growing Sustainability team. This role offers a unique chance to work across our manufacturing areas to help drive sustainability performance improvement and identify innovative sustainability solutions. The role will be responsible for managing our site and supplier sustainability audit programs and engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to lead initiatives that embed sustainability into our operations, culture, and decision-making. This role will include travel to Australia to understand our operations and support them with their sustainability performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Responsibilities :

  • Manage Visy’s sustainability and supply chain programs (e.g. SEDEX) which includes managing the administration of site audits (which may include on-site support), collection of evidence and developing supporting material for sites
  • Shape and evolve our sustainability narrative and customer-facing messaging including responding to customer sustainability questionnaires such as Ecovadis
  • Support the capture and reporting of sustainability related data including for management reports, National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS), CDP, waste audits, with the medium-term goal to automate data collection and reporting.
  • The dynamic nature of this sector will require a level of adaptability and agility to react to changing demands from external bodies, government and customers
  • Identify and manage sustainability related risks across Visy’s operations and supply chain
  • Develop sustainability policies, procedures, handbooks and guidelines
  • Contribute to the development of regulatory reporting disclosures and their associated assurance requirements
  • Contribute to driving a culture of sustainability through developing sustainability related training and resource materials.
  • Develop presentations for customers on Visy’s sustainability performance, projects and initiatives
  • Support the management of sustainability certifications and reporting

Key Challenges :

  • The Visy business is also changing constantly, so the ability to react and adapt to policy and or external changes will require an informed and visionary view as to what the future impacts of environmental changes mean to the business.
  • Communication : Ability to communicate (verbal & written) to all levels within the organisation and within our customers organisations. Be able to communicate with the wider community as an advocate for Visy’s circular economy progress. Able to influence and direct project discussions.
  • Time Management : Prioritisation of tasks and projects ensuring sufficient time is spent focused on the bigger picture and commercially grounded outcomes.
  • Relationships : Navigate demands of other departments in particular operations. Ensure tasks being requested are in line with the objectives and best interests of the business. Where applicable use experience and expertise to train individuals to complete tasks themselves.

  • Experience & Qualifications :

    Mandatory :

  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, business, science, engineering, environment, sustainability, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum of 3 years' professional experience in the environmental or sustainability sector
  • Experience with responding to sustainability questionnaires, surveys and site sustainability audits (e.g. CDP, SEDEX, EcoVadis, customer SAQs)
  • Technical understanding of key sustainability topics such as climate, carbon / GHG emissions, water and packaging / recycling, waste, sustainable procurement, human rights and modern slavery
  • Ability to collect, cleanse, organize, interpret data and turn them into meaningful insights, statistics, information, and explanations
  • Confidence in leading environmental or sustainability initiatives and programs to achieve required outcomes.
  • Ability to critically assess complex information and simplify it for communication to others
  • Strong communication (spoken and written), problem solving, stakeholder engagement skills and attention to details
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Robust problem-solving skills and an ability to use data and a common-sense approach to deliver strategic initiatives
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office and System Software)
  • Must have a valid passport
  • Desirable :

  • Experience in big 4 consulting services or heavy industry / manufacturing environment is highly regarded
  • Technical knowledge of global sustainability reporting frameworks standards, and applicable regulatory reporting schemes (e.g. ISSB, AASB S2, SBTi, GHG Protocol, NGERS)
  • Strong orientation towards process improvement and risk management.
  • Ability to build reports and present insights, using different systems and proficient in data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI).
