The Head – Design Engineer will lead the design and development function for all sheet metal fabrication projects. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep technical knowledge, innovation capability, and the ability to manage a team of design engineers to deliver high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the entire design department for sheet metal components, assemblies, and product development.
- Review and approve design drawings, models, and fabrication layouts as per industry standards.
- Work closely with production, quality, and marketing teams to ensure manufacturability and functionality.
- Optimize designs for material usage, accuracy, and ease of manufacturing.
- Manage a team of engineers, assign projects, and monitor progress.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance for complex projects.
- Coordinate with customers for design feasibility, drawing approvals, and project updates.
- Develop standard design practices and enforce CAD data management systems.
- Research new materials, tools, and technologies to improve design efficiency.
Required Skills and Qualifications
BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.Minimum 10 years of experience in sheet metal design, fabrication, and product development.Strong knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo.Proficient in GD&T, fabrication tolerances, and BOM creation.Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.Exposure to manufacturing processes like laser cutting, bending, welding, powder coating, and assembly.
