Role Description

The Data Center & Lab Engineering Manager will lead the operational and strategic management of critical infrastructure in client owned data center and lab environment. The role emphasizes ensuring 24 / 7 uptime, driving sustainability initiatives, optimizing energy usage, and maintaining compliance with industry and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing lab or data center operations, green energy expertise, and technical proficiency in electrical, HVAC, and facility systems

Key Duties

Operational Management

  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of all critical systems, including HVAC, electrical systems (UPS, generators, switchgear), and fire suppression systems.
  • Oversee daily lab operations, maintenance, and repair activities to achieve 100% uptime.
  • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to optimize asset performance and extend lifespan.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Manage upgrades and retrofits to improve energy efficiency and meet evolving facility requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze lab energy usage and load management trends; propose and implement energy optimization plans.
  • Evaluate green energy feasibility and implement sustainability initiatives.

Infrastructure and Asset Management

  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and legal obligations for all facility systems.
  • Oversee the maintenance of lighting, fire suppression, HVAC, and other lab infrastructure assets.
  • Maintain logbooks, checklists, and preventive maintenance schedules for all M&E installations.
  • Ensure critical spare inventory and manage downtime and breakdowns effectively.
  • Lead small M&E projects based on client requirements.
  • Vendor and Contract Management

  • Manage third-party vendors, ensuring adherence to SLAs and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with procurement to negotiate contracts for equipment maintenance, critical infrastructure, and energy supply.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and oversee service quality.
  • Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, TIA-942).
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and emergency response protocols.
  • Conduct safety audits and train staff in safety and compliance standards.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and train a team of engineers and technical staff.
  • Collaborate with IT and lab teams to align facility operations with performance goals.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on capacity planning, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Budgeting and Cost Management

  • Prepare and manage annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures, particularly in energy efficiency and sustainability projects.
  • Monitor expenses and report variances to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, maintenance logs, incident reports, and compliance certifications.
  • Provide periodic reports on facility performance, risks, and operational metrics.
  • Track the lifespan of critical equipment and support long-term CAPEX planning.
  • Manage and execute OPEX / CAPEX projects within agreed timelines.
  • Skills, Education and Experience

    Educational Background :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related disciplines). A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Professional certifications (PMP, CFM, LEED, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
  • Experience :

  • 8+ years of experience in facilities operations management, with at least 5 years in a data center, Labs or mission-critical environment.
  • Proven expertise in managing large-scale facilities with critical infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience in green energy implementation and energy management.
  • Skills and Knowledge :

  • Strong knowledge of data center and lab infrastructure systems, including electrical, cooling systems, and energy management.
  • Proficiency in Building Management Systems (BMS) and maintenance management software.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on operational efficiency.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple tasks.
