Team Overview
Our Water team in India was established in 2018 for supporting our United Kingdom (UK) offices and currently have 180+ staff. We are expected to grow significantly in line with our strategic growth plan over the next couple of years.
The team undertakes design projects within the Water sector for various UK clients. The team provides a wide range of services including, Water & Wastewater conveyance, Treatment Plant designs, wet utilities network design and modelling, site grading & BIM, hydrology, flood risk modelling, SUDs and drainage design, technical specifications and reports.
Role Summary
The successful candidate, working together with the UK based resources, will bring their expertise, capability and engineering knowledge to provide commercial and technical leadership to our existing teams, facilitate additional growth, and enable the business to meet clients’ needs.
The Project Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of project management, technical leadership and framework level ownership & delivery within the Water – Asset Design domain. They will lead a team of professionals, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure the successful execution of projects aimed at addressing critical environmental issues and promoting sustainable development.
We are looking for an individual with proven experience and results in establishing, growing and leading an offshoring centre – and the functions within it - for a major organisation to help us deliver this strategy. As this role will include overseeing both the Technical and Shared Services teams and we are looking for a well-rounded individual with experience across a few Business Leadership roles.
Responsibilities
Work with the US and India leadership teams to ensure People & Culture strategies support the overall strategic plan with a focus on diversity in talent acquisition, high employee engagement and effective talent management development and succession plans. Ensure visible leadership in support of the WSP guiding principles and best in class workplace culture.
This role requires a strong leader with exceptional project management skills, technical expertise in environmental science or engineering, and a passion for sustainable development and collaborative problem-solving.
- Work with each Business Line and appropriate international colleagues, to identify areas where we can expand our services and improve the output.
- Support with the development of GCC services linked to both resources and technology enhancements that will add confidence and efficiency to our services through seamless quality and on time delivery.
- Establish and monitor service performance levels, pre-empting customer service issues and intervene as necessary to implement corrective actions.
- Establish a strong relationship with the internal clients – the regional support functions and operational business – to understand future needs and address any perceived or actual issues.
- Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team on different locations to variety of projects.
- Promote WSP Vision and Values.
- Identify opportunities to upskill existing technical resources or recruit new capabilities to deliver additional services or enhance existing ones.
- Identify further skills that could be brought into the GCC to deliver additional services or enhancements to various businesses.
- Ensuring that the Business Management System is implemented and maintained.
- Carry out audits of adherence to WSP Management and Quality processes and implement corrective measures where required.

Seasoned professional with at least 20 years’ experience in design, project management, project delivery, advisory or in leadership in a consulting engineering environment. More than 5 years of experience in working with the UK market. Strong experience in the Water industryEducated to Bachelor / Masters degree level in Civil EngineeringCarry wider business acumen and interest in business leadershipWorking knowledge of UK design standards and code in the Water industryProfessional / Chartered Engineer status from a recognized UK professional institution
