About IIT Bombay :

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, set up in 1958 as the second IIT, is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of science and engineering education and research. The Institute was granted the status of 'Institution of Eminence' by the Ministry of Education (the then Ministry of Human Resources Development) on July 9, 2018. IIT Bombay is reputed for the quality of its faculty, cutting edge research, industry relations and the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Institute has 17 academic departments, 35 other academic entities (Centres / Programmes / Academic facilities / Hubs / Externally funded centres and Labs) and three schools. Over the last six decades, more than 75,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the Institute. It is served by 751 faculty members and about 150 visiting and part-time faculty considered not only amongst the best within the country but also highly recognised in the world for achievements in the field of education and research. On June 4, 2024, IIT Bombay was ranked 1st in India and 118th in the world in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2025. On March 12, 2025, IIT Bombay was ranked 28th in Engineering and Technology in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for 2025.

About the Centre : The Motilal Oswal Centre for Capital Markets (MOCCM) is an initiative supported by Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. and housed in the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The Centre aims to foster education, research, training, and innovation in financial markets, fintech, quantitative finance, and investment management. It serves as a hub for academia-industry collaboration, thought leadership, and impactful research.

Job Purpose

The Program Director will lead the strategic, academic, and operational initiatives of the Centre.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, visionary leader with experience in academia, research management, or financial services industry, who is capable of building interdisciplinary collaborations and driving impactful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership :

Formulate and execute the long-term vision and strategy of the Centre.

Develop programs and initiatives aligned with the Centre’s mandate in financial markets research and education.

Education and Research Program Management :

Provide the required support for research projects, working papers, and good publications in financial markets and related areas.

Support faculty-led research, student engagement, and visiting scholar initiatives.

Provide required support for organizing training programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and certificate courses.

Industry and Stakeholder Engagement :

Build partnerships with financial institutions, statutory bodies, regulatory institutions, industry associations, and other organizations.

Organize seminars, panel discussions, and talks / lectures by industry experts.

Operational Oversight :

Manage day-to-day administration of the Centre including budgeting, reporting, and resource planning.

Supervise support staff, interns, and research associates.

Communication and Outreach :

Oversee the Centre’s visibility (online and offline), including publications, newsletters, and website updates.

Provide the required support to represent the Centre at conferences, academic forums, and industry meetings.

Desired Profile

Masters or Ph.D. degree in Finance, Economics, Management, or related discipline.

At least 15 years of experience in academic and / or research institutions, regulatory institutions, financial services companies, industry associations, or other relevant organizations.

Demonstrated ability to manage academic and research programs.

Very good understanding of financial markets, fintech, or quantitative finance is desirable.

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Attributes :

Experience with academic institutions or research centres.

Strong professional network in finance or policy domains.

Familiarity with grant writing, fundraising, and donor engagement.
