We are seeking a skilled and experienced Vertex Tax Functional Consultant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, configuring, and supporting the Vertex tax solution in line with business requirements. You will partner closely with tax, finance, IT, and other cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance, seamless ERP integration, and optimal performance of the tax engine. This is a remote role with required working overlap with US business hours.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead requirements gathering sessions with tax, accounting, and business stakeholders to understand indirect tax (sales / use tax, VAT, GST) needs.
Design and configure Vertex (O Series, Vertex Cloud, or relevant Vertex modules) to meet US and multi‑jurisdictional tax rules and scenarios.
Map business requirements into functional specifications, process flows, configuration, rules, and tax logic.
Integrate Vertex with ERP systems (such as Oracle Fusion, Oracle EBS, SAP, NetSuite, or other systems), ensuring data flow and tax determination accuracy.
Participate in solution architecture discussions and ensure tax design aligns with overall ERP and system architecture.
Support system testing (unit, integration, UAT) for tax scenarios, perform validations, and resolve defects.
Assist with data load, migration, and reconciliation of tax-related data, including existing tax rules, exemptions, and master data.
Maintain the tax engine post‑go live—handle enhancements, patches, tax law updates, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
Support audits and compliance by providing tax reports, reconciliations, and documentation for controls.
Provide training, knowledge transfer, and support to end users and internal teams.
Stay current with US tax law changes, multi-state tax regulations, and Vertex product updates to assess impact and recommend changes.
Drive best practices, standardization, and continuous improvement in tax processes and technology usage.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
13+ years (or as needed) of experience in a Functional Consultant role focusing on indirect tax / transaction tax solutions.
Deep expertise in Vertex tax solutions (Vertex O Series, Vertex Cloud, or equivalent) — configuration, rules, taxability, exemption management.
Solid understanding of US indirect tax (sales & use tax) across multiple states, multi‑jurisdictional tax rules.
Proven experience in at least one end-to-end implementation of Vertex, including integration with ERP systems.
Strong experience in integrating tax engines with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Fusion, EBS, SAP, NetSuite, etc.).
Ability to translate tax requirements into technical / functional design and configuration.
Experience in testing, data migration, reconciliation, and post‑go live support.
Good analytical, problem-solving and debugging skills (including data analysis, root‑cause).
Excellent communication skills—able to interact with business, tax, and IT stakeholders.
Comfortable working in remote setup with US time overlaps (late evenings / early mornings in Indian time, or as agreed).
Preferred / Nice-to-Have :
Exposure to global indirect tax (VAT, GST) beyond the US.
Experience with Oracle Fusion Tax module or other ERP tax modules.
Prior work in tax compliance reporting, tax accruals, and audit support.
Familiarity with APIs, REST / SOAP integrations, web services used for Vertex-ERP connectivity.
Experience with Agile methodology, use of user stories, epics, and iterative delivery.
Experience with performance tuning, tax rule optimization, and large-scale tax engines.
Knowledge of SOX controls in tax domain and audit requirements.
