This role conducts testing and validation activities while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and documentation to support quality assurance efforts.

Role and Responsibility

Technical Operations in Explosives & Propellants :

  • Independently handle, transport, and store explosive materials in compliance with STEC safety guidelines and SOPs.
  • Carry out identification, segregation, and inspection of explosive raw materials, including warheads, pyros, and grains.
  • Apply knowledge of explosive sensitiveness, compatibility, and shelf-life in material preparation and work planning.
  • Support QC activities by following standard checklists and recording data related to explosive lot traceability and performance.

Assembly & Integration of Warheads and Propulsion Subsystems :

  • Execute assembly of warhead modules and rocket motor stages, including placement of liners, seals, igniters, and nozzles.
  • Integrate propellants and grains with mechanical structures under clean and controlled conditions.
  • Conduct stage-wise documentation of explosive integration activities, including weight verification, mechanical fit checks, and sealing protocols.
  • Participate in inter-departmental coordination for hardware readiness, tool availability, and fixture setup for assembly.
  • Testing & Validation Activities :

  • Perform standard pre- and post-integration checks on explosive subassemblies, including visual inspections and mechanical integrity validations.
  • Set up and operate basic test rigs to check propulsion system parameters (e.g., grain alignment, insulation bonding, nozzle fit).
  • Support dry runs and dummy tests prior to live assembly to ensure process validation and operator safety.
  • Conduct environmental test and static firing as the document.
  • Safety, Risk Mitigation & Regulatory Compliance :

  • Conduct risk assessments for explosive handling tasks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with safety officers.
  • Enforce compliance with explosive zoning regulations, PPE protocols, grounding rules, and static elimination measures.
  • Organize and participate in periodic safety drills, toolbox talks, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Ensure proper classification, storage, and hazard labelling of all explosive material in alignment with regulatory standards and STEC guidelines.
  • Explosive Disposal & Demolition :

  • Assist in planning and execution of disposal tasks for unserviceable, aged, or defective explosive materials.
  • Prepare disposal documentation, coordinate transportation logistics, and participate in site-level demolition tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Maintain proper recordkeeping and regulatory reporting for all disposal activities in line with defense protocols.
  • Solid Rocket Propulsion System Integration :

  • Carry out inspection and integration of solid rocket motor components, including propellant grains, igniters, seals, and thermal protection systems.
  • Identify mismatches and tolerance issues during integration and recommend engineering drawing updates based on field experience.
  • Create checklists, track progress, and ensure hardware compliance with design intent during each assembly stage.
  • Support static testing, alignment verification, and dimensional integrity checks of propulsion systems.
  • Documentation, Reporting & Traceability :

  • Maintain detailed records of explosive handling, assembly, and testing using structured documentation formats.
  • Contribute to updates of SOPs, work instructions, and integration logs based on on-ground experience.
  • Ensure traceability of explosive batches, hardware revisions, and integration configurations.
