Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Tooling Engineer to design and develop precision fixtures for tube bending and welding operations in an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring the dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and structural integrity of aerospace tubing assemblies used in high-performance systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom tube bending fixtures for CNC mandrel benders, rotary draw benders, and other forming equipment.
- Engineer welding fixtures that ensure precise alignment, clamping, and distortion control during TIG and orbital welding of aerospace-grade tubing.
- Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to translate tube assembly drawings into manufacturable tooling solutions.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using tools like CATIA, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and simulate fixture performance under thermal and mechanical loads.
- Support prototype builds and first-article inspections (FAI) by troubleshooting tooling-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards such as AS9100, AWS D17.1, and NADCAP requirements.
- Document fixture designs, revisions, and maintenance procedures for traceability and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.3–5 years of experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing, with a focus on tooling or fixture design.Proficiency in CAD software and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).Strong understanding of tube bending mechanics, welding processes (TIG, orbital), and fixture design principles.Familiarity with lean manufacturing, PFMEA, and root cause analysis.Preferred Experience
Experience with titanium, Inconel, and stainless steel tubing.Knowledge of CNC tube bending programming and weld distortion control.Exposure to digital manufacturing tools and PLM systems.
