Azure SQL Administration

The SQL Azure DBA (L2) is responsible for operational management, performance tuning, and security of Azure SQL Databases, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools within a managed service environment. The role focuses on ensuring availability, compliance, and SLA adherence through proactive monitoring, automation, and incident resolution.

This is a hands-on operational role supporting multiple Azure SQL workloads under managed service contracts.

Key Responsibilities

Azure SQL Administration

• Perform daily health checks, backup verification, and performance monitoring for Azure SQL Databases, Elastic Pools, and Managed Instances.
• Manage user access, roles, and authentication via Entra ID / Azure AD.
• Configure and maintain database auditing, threat detection, and alerts through Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
• Monitor DTU / vCore usage, query performance, and IO metrics; recommend scaling or indexing improvements.
• Implement and manage geo-replication, automated backups, and long-term retention policies.
• Ensure database configurations align with security and compliance requirements (TDE, data masking, etc.).
