Java Software Engineer

Description : Responsibilities across functional lines with individuals assigned in new program development and / or maintenance of existing mobile, WEB, Cloud, server, and / or distributed computing systems.Competent to perform Spring Boot and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.Build new backend microservices using Sprint Boot framework leveraging out of the box components as well as extending / customizing where necessary to meet business needs.Works directly on complex application / technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls.Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.Works independently on proof of concepts for new framework / technology / complex solutions.Drives application development focused around delivering business valuable features.Maintains high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.Identifies and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the teamCommunicate with others to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness with clarity.Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.Manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions.Sets priorities and establishes a work plan to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.Participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.Collaborate with Project leads, test managers / leads and others developers for project implementationGood team player with sense of accountability, positivity and flexibility.Basic qualifications : Position requires a four-year degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.8+ years of software development experience.5+ years of experience in designing and developing applications in Java Sprint boot framework.Hands on Experience with Spring Boot framework and OSGi specification.Strong knowledge of micro-service logging, monitoring, debugging, and testing.Strong proficiency in Java programming language.Knowledge of RESTful web services and API development.Knowledge of markup languages such as JSON and YML.Interconnecting microservices with databases.Implementations experience in micro-service integration, packaging, build automation, and deployment.Good knowledge in microservice design patterns like API Aggregation, flexibility, scalability etc.Expertise in SQL & No SQL Database.Understanding of software development principles and methodologies.Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with other developers and stakeholders.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Nice to have : Familiarity with software development design patterns : GIT, Swagger, PCF, and Rabbit MQExpertise in API technologies such as Rest Webservices.Previous experience writing unit tests with JUnit, Mockito, or PowerMockFamiliarity with database technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL or equivalentKnowledge of how streaming systems such as Kafka operate.Working knowledge of quality and security scan technologies such as Sonar, Fortify, and WebInspect or equivalent.Knowledge of the Agile approach.
