SQL Developer

We're looking for an experienced SQL Developer to design, optimize, and maintain database solutions that power our applications and analytics. This role requires strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL and a solid grasp of SQL fundamentals applicable across relational databases and modern data warehouses. You'll be responsible for writing efficient, scalable queries and helping the team diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, write, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions
• Analyze and tune query performance, identifying bottlenecks in execution plans
• Evaluate and recommend indexing strategies based on query patterns and WHERE/JOIN clause usage
• Review and refactor nested queries/subqueries for performance and maintainability, choosing appropriate alternatives (CTEs, joins, window functions) where beneficial
• Collaborate with backend engineers and data teams to design efficient schemas
• Monitor and troubleshoot slow-running queries in production environments
• Document database design decisions, query optimization rationale, and best practices

Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of professional experience as a SQL Developer or similar role
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, with working knowledge of SQL as applied to other RDBMSs and data warehouses (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
• Deep understanding of query performance factors: indexing strategy, execution plans, query planning, and optimizer behavior
• Proven ability to analyze and rewrite nested queries/subqueries for performance improvements
• Solid grasp of database fundamentals: normalization, indexing (B-tree, composite, partial, covering indexes), locking, transactions, and isolation levels
• Experience using EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE (or equivalent) to diagnose and resolve slow queries
• Familiarity with database monitoring and query profiling tools
