Senior Lecturer, First Peoples Nursing (Identified)

  • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week), Part-time hours also considered.
  • Duration: Continuing
  • Remuneration: $161k - $185k base (+17% super, a leave loading and an interstate relocation allowance may be offered on discussion at application)
  • Location: UNSW Health Translation Hub at Randwick. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed
  • UNSW offers up to 10 days paid culture leave annually for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members

The Opportunity

This position is a joint Education & Research Focused appointment between the Blakcademy and the School of Population Health, Discipline of Nursing. The position is designed to focus on developing First Peoples Nursing Education and Research in the School and Faculty. The position contributes to First Peoples educational innovation, curriculum development, professional development, student experience, and academic compliance.

This position will demonstrate strong knowledge of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health, including First Peoples knowledges, cultures, strengths, and self-determining approaches to health and wellbeing, alongside the impacts of colonisation, racism, and other structural determinants of health. The role requires experience in nursing or health professional education, teaching, assessment, and curriculum design that embeds Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander knowledges, cultural capability, cultural safety, and anti-racist practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with First Peoples communities and partners to support culturally responsive education and contribute to equitable health outcomes.

Key Skills And Experience Required

  • A PhD in nursing or significant industry experience and/or relevant teaching, curriculum design work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated experience in First Peoples teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical (including Indigenous) approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for First Peoples nursing educational excellence and fostering this in others.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning relating to First Peoples health.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating First Peoples curriculum development and improvement in nursing or health related programs.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building First Peoples engagement and partnerships with the health profession and industry
