Editor (Engineering & Technology)

Encyclopædia Britannica is looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable, digital-first writer and editor who will be responsible for Britannica's coverage of topics in engineering and technology.

Britannica is singularly proud of its history as a publisher and disseminator of knowledge for students as well as lifelong learners for more than 250 years. Our mission now is to reach learners where they live online and to engage with them in the multitude of ways people learn, including through visually driven storytelling.

Demonstrable editorial and writing skills as well as subject matter expertise are essential for this role. Expertise in engineering and technology is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree and will have the curiosity and enthusiasm to reach beyond their area of expertise when needed, create content about topics that may not be immediately familiar, and be energized by sharing what they know and what they've learned with Britannica's audience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Editing, writing, and commissioning articles.
• Planning, in partnership with colleagues, contributors, and advisers, how Britannica can expand and maintain its coverage of topics in the assigned disciplines.
• Working with colleagues and managers to identify articles that need revision and updating such articles so that they are current, engaging to today's learners, and complete.
• Collaborating with media editors and illustrators on the acquisition and production of images, videos, and other media.
• Working with other editors during the revision and fact-checking process.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• The applicant should have significant writing and editing experience. Please include links to at least three appropriate writing samples with your application.
• The applicant should have a master's degree; a bachelor's degree with professional experience and broad contacts will be considered a substitute.
• The ideal applicant will have up to 8 years' work experience relevant to the role.
