Opalus Investments Limited is developing OPAL, an AI-powered SaaS business operating platform for SMEs. OPAL places accounting at the core and connects finance, customers, people, projects, documents and workflow in one secure operating environment. We are establishing our software development team and office in Kochi, Kerala.

The opportunity

Build reliable backend services for OPAL’s accounting, banking, reporting, identity, workflow and integration capabilities.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement services for general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and reporting workflows.
• Implement tenant-aware business logic, permissions, data access and audit controls.
• Develop secure, well-documented REST and, where appropriate, GraphQL APIs.
• Integrate OPAL with CRM, payroll, recruitment, banking and other external services.
• Build audit logging, validation and compliance controls into transactional workflows.
• Improve performance, reliability and data integrity for high-volume financial processing.
• Support localisation, multi-company and multi-currency requirements.
• Contribute automated tests, code reviews, technical documentation and production support.

Opalus Investments Limited is developing OPAL, an AI-powered SaaS business operating platform for small and medium-sized businesses. With accounting at its core, OPAL is designed to connect finance, banking, customers, people, recruitment, projects, documents, workflow and reporting in one secure operating environment. A permissioned AI layer is being designed across the connected business record to help users understand information, prepare work and take controlled action with appropriate approvals and audit trails.

The company has completed a high-fidelity working prototype and is building the production-grade platform for an initial Australian release. Opalus is now establishing a software development office and multidisciplinary product team in Kochi, Kerala, to help take OPAL through engineering, testing, release and ongoing product development.

Requirements

What you bring

• 7–12 years of backend engineering experience.
• Degree in Engineering.
• Strong commercial experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, PostgreSQL, and sound relational data-modelling practices.
• Experience with Redis and event or messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Experience securing APIs using JWT, OAuth 2.0 and related identity patterns.
• Strong unit, integration and contract-testing practices, along with experience working in Agile or Scrum environments and with CI/CD.
• Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS design and distributed-system fundamentals.
• Experience in accounting, ERP, banking or FinTech domains.
• Experience integrating with Xero, MYOB or comparable accounting platforms.
• Exposure to AWS or Azure and containerised production environments.
• Eligible to work in India.

Location requirement

This position is based in Kochi, Kerala, India. Applicants must already be based in Kochi or be willing to relocate to Kochi.
