OpenStack Administrator

Location : Remote

Experience : 2 to 4 years

We are seeking an experienced OpenStack Administrator to design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenStack cloud infrastructure across bare metal, virtual machines, and containerized environments. This role requires close collaboration with engineering and DevOps teams to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of R&D lab environments. The candidate should be flexible to work North America hours with occasional overlap for collaboration with the India-based team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and manage OpenStack environments (manual and automated using Ansible, Fuel, Kolla , and vendor solutions such as Red Hat OpenStack, Mirantis ).
  • Configure and maintain OpenStack services including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Heat, Ceilometer .
  • Manage multi-tenant cloud environments with quotas, networks, and security groups.
  • Perform upgrades across OpenStack releases (e.g., Kilo → Liberty → Mitaka).
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Ansible, Terraform, Chef .
  • Support bare metal provisioning and virtualization using KVM, VMware ESXi .
  • Provision and manage storage backends ( Ceph, Cinder volumes ) and image repositories.
  • Ensure secure access and compliance through RBAC and Keystone policies .
  • Mentor and upskill team members within the engineering labs.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot OpenStack services using Nagios and log analysis tools.
  • Integrate OpenStack environments with CI / CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub, Maven).

Required Technical Skills

Cloud & Virtualization

  • Strong expertise in OpenStack (Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Heat).
  • Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes (optional) .
  • Familiarity with OpenShift and basic AWS architecture knowledge (optional) .

    • Operating Systems

  • Proficiency with Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Solaris .

    • Automation & DevOps

  • Expertise in Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform .
  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines using Jenkins, Git, Maven .

    • Networking

  • Understanding of VLANs, routers, subnets, floating IPs .
  • Experience with Neutron services and SDN integration .

    • Storage

  • Knowledge of Ceph, Cinder, Swift .
  • Volume management including snapshots, backups, and restores .

    • Programming & Scripting

  • Strong scripting / programming in Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl, C / C++ .

    • Monitoring & Testing

  • Proficiency with Nagios or equivalent monitoring tools.
  • Strong skills in log analysis and fault isolation .
