About the Role
We are seeking a Prepress Operator (Freelancer) to support advanced AI evaluation initiatives focused on print production, prepress workflows, file preparation, print quality assurance, and AI-generated print-ready document evaluation.
In this role, you will evaluate AI-generated print files, production layouts, packaging artwork, and prepress workflows. Your expertise will help improve AI systems designed for print production, document preparation, packaging, publishing, and graphic arts automation.
This position is ideal for professionals with experience in prepress operations, commercial printing, packaging, publishing, graphic production, or print quality control.
Responsibilities
- Create deliverables addressing real-world print production and prepress scenarios.
- Annotate and evaluate AI-generated print-ready files, production layouts, packaging artwork, and publishing assets.
- Assess AI outputs for print quality, production accuracy, technical compliance, and manufacturing readiness.
- Perform prepress operations by reviewing artwork, fonts, images, color settings, bleeds, trims, and production specifications before printing.
- Prepare production files through file preparation, ensuring correct document formats, linked assets, embedded fonts, image resolution, bleed settings, crop marks, and PDF standards.
- Create and verify imposition layouts by arranging pages for efficient printing, folding, binding, packaging, and finishing according to production requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive print-ready checks, including preflight validation, color space verification, overprint settings, transparency handling, image resolution checks, trapping, and print compatibility.
- Review AI-generated print files for technical accuracy, production feasibility, layout consistency, and compliance with commercial printing standards.
- Identify artwork errors, missing assets, font issues, color inconsistencies, low-resolution images, incorrect bleeds, and production risks in AI-generated outputs.
- Provide structured feedback to improve AI performance in print production, prepress automation, and print quality assurance.
- Review peer-developed deliverables to maintain quality and consistency standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Printing Technology, Visual Communication, Publishing, Multimedia, or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in prepress operations, commercial printing, packaging production, publishing, or print production.
- Performing professional prepress workflows for commercial printing, packaging, labels, publishing, or marketing collateral.
- Preparing production-ready files through file preparation, including font management, image verification, bleed setup, trim marks, and export optimization.
- Creating and validating imposition layouts for offset, digital, large-format, or packaging print workflows.
- Conducting detailed print-ready checks, including PDF preflight, color profile validation, trapping, overprint settings, transparency flattening, and print compatibility verification.
- Reviewing AI-generated print files for production readiness, technical accuracy, and manufacturing compliance.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and prepress workflow software is preferred.
- Familiarity with PDF/X standards, ICC color profiles, RIP software, Esko, Kodak Prinergy, Heidelberg Prinect, EFI Fiery, or similar print production systems is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, technical problem-solving skills, and production quality mindset.
- Excellent written English communication skills.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated print files for technical accuracy, print quality, and production readiness.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in commercial printing, packaging, publishing, newspapers, magazines, marketing agencies, or print service providers.
- Experience with offset, digital, flexographic, gravure, or large-format printing processes.
- Familiarity with packaging design, label production, variable data printing (VDP), or digital asset management workflows.
- Experience evaluating AI-generated artwork, print datasets, or production automation workflows.
- Industry certifications in printing technology, Adobe Creative Cloud, or color management are highly desirable.
