SQL Database Administrator - Performance Tuning

Job Summary :

We are looking for a proactive SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to provide 247 operational support for enterprise SQL database environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring database health, resolving connectivity issues, managing user access, supporting backup and recovery operations, troubleshooting performance problems, assisting with database migrations, and ensuring high availability of database systems. This role requires close collaboration with L2/L3 support teams while maintaining operational excellence and compliance.

Key Responsibilities :

- Monitor and maintain the availability and health of SQL Server databases across production environments.

- Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity issues to ensure uninterrupted access for users and applications.

- Create, modify, disable, and manage database user accounts, roles, and access permissions.

- Monitor automated database alerts and respond to performance, storage, memory, CPU, and service-related issues.

- Verify successful completion of scheduled database backups and escalate backup failures when required.

- Perform basic SQL query analysis and identify opportunities for performance improvements.

- Restart database services during failures or outages while following operational procedures.

- Monitor database growth, storage utilization, and disk space to prevent capacity issues.

- Perform routine database health checks, review SQL Server logs, and identify potential operational risks.

- Support audit and compliance activities by providing required database information and reports.

- Handle incident tickets, perform initial troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues to higher support teams.

- Investigate database performance issues, including slow-running queries and application response delays.

- Execute approved SQL scripts for routine maintenance, housekeeping, and operational support.

- Monitor database failover events in High Availability environments and coordinate with support teams during incidents.

- Assist in database security patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance initiatives.

- Support database migration, upgrade, and deployment activities while monitoring execution and reporting issues.

- Maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and operational procedures to improve service efficiency.

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements and automation opportunities.

- Support new database deployments across on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.

Required Skills :

1. Mandatory Skills :

- 3 to 6 years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator.

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration.

- Experience in database monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support.

- Hands-on experience with user management, security roles, and permission administration.

- Knowledge of SQL Server backup, restore, recovery, and maintenance activities.

- Experience monitoring database performance, storage utilization, and server health.

- Understanding of SQL query optimization and performance tuning concepts.

- Familiarity with SQL Server High Availability, Failover, and Disaster Recovery concepts.

- Experience supporting production environments and managing incident tickets.

- Good understanding of database security, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.

- Experience executing SQL scripts for routine administrative tasks.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

- Willingness to work in 247 rotational shifts.

2. Preferred Skills :

- Experience with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.

- Knowledge of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.

- Familiarity with database migration and upgrade activities.

- Exposure to cloud database administration on Microsoft Azure.

- Experience working in ITIL-based support environments.

- Knowledge of PowerShell or scripting for database administration.

- Experience using monitoring tools for SQL Server environments.
