JD for Sr Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer

Role Overview

Be part of the Aerospace Mechanical Engineering team to design and develop lightweight and rugged products compliant with aerospace standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end mechanical product development in accordance with the Hardware Development Life Cycle process
  • Understand and interpret the SOW for assigned projects
  • AI adoption for Mechanical Design to enhance productivity, efficiency and effectiveness
  • Perform requirements analysis, review, validation, and verification for compliance
  • Translate SOW requirements into actionable engineering tasks
  • Develop conceptual designs for enclosure packaging and detailed designs using CAD tools such as Creo and NX, with focus on SWAPC optimization
  • Create MCAD drawings with GD&T annotations for manufacturing and assembly
  • Perform structural and/or thermal analysis and validate enclosure designs using tools such as NX and ANSYS
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of manufacturing processes for electronic enclosures, including:
    • Sheet metal
    • Plastic molding
    • Machined components
    • Die-cast parts
  • Incorporate design considerations for environmental qualification standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD-810, along with EMI/EMC and IP protection requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Electrical, Systems, Software, and Reliability Engineering
  • Apply Six Sigma tools and engineering best practices throughout the product development lifecycle
  • DFM and DFA, with focus on optimization
  • Utilize configuration management tools such as Teamcenter for product lifecycle management
  • Apply quality tools (e.g., Pareto analysis, root cause analysis) to analyze defects and implement corrective actions
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • 14+ years of relevant experience in aerospace or related industries

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong aerospace domain knowledge across systems and LRUs located throughout the aircraft (nose to tail)
  • Hands-on experience in resolving field and/or manufacturing issues
  • Innovative mindset with ability to contribute to new product features, concepts, patents, and trade secrets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions in complex situations
  • Capability to evaluate and recommend technical solutions based on standard engineering practices
  • Experience with industry-standard engineering tools and methods such as:
    • Trade-off studies
    • Root cause analysis (RCA)
    • Voice of Customer (VoC)
