Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced
Commodity Buyer / Vendor Sourcing Specialist to manage the sourcing and procurement of trucking aftermarket parts while owning specific commodity categories. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in developing commodity strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring a competitive supply base.
This role requires someone with a proven background in
commodity management, rather than someone whose experience is limited only to vendor sourcing.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommodity Management & Strategic Sourcing
- Own and manage assigned commodity categories for trucking aftermarket parts (engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical components, body parts, suspension parts, etc.).
- Develop and execute commodity sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Identify new product categories and sourcing opportunities to strengthen the supply chain.
- Execute sourcing and re-sourcing projects while ensuring timely completion.
Supplier Identification & Qualification
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify domestic and international suppliers based on quality, production capacity, pricing, certifications, and delivery capabilities.
- Continuously expand the supplier base while maintaining competitive sourcing options.
- Create RFQs/RFPs, prepare quotation packages, and distribute them to qualified suppliers.
- Follow up proactively with suppliers to obtain complete and timely quotations.
Negotiation & Cost Optimization
- Lead commercial negotiations on pricing, payment terms, MOQs, lead times, and contracts.
- Challenge supplier price increases using market intelligence and cost analysis.
- Drive year-over-year cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.
- Identify value engineering and alternative sourcing opportunities to improve profitability.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with key suppliers.
- Conduct supplier meetings, business reviews, and performance evaluations.
- Work closely with suppliers to improve quality, delivery performance, and overall service levels.
- Maintain a competitive and reliable supplier network.
Market Intelligence & Commodity Analysis
- Monitor commodity market trends, raw material pricing, industry developments, and competitor activities.
- Analyze market conditions to anticipate supply risks and identify sourcing opportunities.
- Provide regular reports and recommendations to management on commodity performance and market changes.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Product Development, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to meet sourcing objectives.
- Support quality, purchasing, and product development teams with supplier-related requirements.
- Present sourcing recommendations, project timelines, and procurement summaries to leadership.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare sourcing analysis, supplier comparison reports, cost-saving reports, and procurement dashboards.
- Maintain accurate sourcing documentation and supplier records.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies and company standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Commodity Buying, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, or Vendor Management.
- Strong experience managing commodity categories, preferably in automotive, trucking aftermarket, manufacturing, or industrial components.
- Proven ability to develop and execute commodity strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives.
- Experience challenging supplier price increases and improving commercial terms.
- Strong knowledge of supplier evaluation, RFQ/RFP processes, and contract negotiations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple sourcing projects.
