Automation Engineer Lead Analyst

Position Overview:

Content Engineering Solutions team is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer Lead Analyst to spearhead the automation strategy within our Drupal-based ecosystem. This pivotal role is integral to our system development lifecycle, driving efficiency and quality across multiple high-performance, enterprise-level environments.

As an Automation Engineer Lead Analyst, you will collaborate closely with project teams and steakholders stakeholders to deliver scalable, maintainable, and robust automation solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring that our automation framework aligns with business objectives, accelerates deployment cycles, and maintains the highest standards of quality assurance. This role requires engagement across all levels of the business, translating complex requirements into measurable results and effective automated solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategy, development, optimization, and execution of automated testing for large-scale, complex Drupal-based projects, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensure adherence to testing standards by reviewing test deliverables/artifacts from internal teams and vendor partners, providing technical guidance.
• Design, implement, and optimize automated test cases covering front-end, back-end, accessibility, integration, and performance to accelerate deployment cycles.
• Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, SauceLabs, optimizing test execution and reducing cycle time.
• Analyze tests data, troubleshoot failures, and refine automation test suites to improve accuracy and reliability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, developers, and DevOps to resolve defects and enhance software quality through automation.
• Proactively identify risks and escalate critical issues to stakeholders to ensure effective resolution and planning.
• Maintain hands-on approach to manual and exploratory testing when necessary, ensuring comprehensive test coverage.
• Drive continuous improvement in QA practices by implementing innovative testing methodologies and automation strategies.
• Mentor and onboard new QA team members, providing training and knowledge sharing on automation tools and best practices.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
• Actively participate in team meetings ensuring smooth collaboration and alignment with projects goals.

Qualifications

• Expertise in applying Agile methodologies and principles to software testing, ensuring efficient and effective test automation throughout the development lifecycle.
• Strong programming skills, particularly in JavaScript (preferred) or TypeScript, with practical experience in developing and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks.
• Proven experience in automating Web UI and API testing using Cypress or Playwright, ensuring comprehensive test coverage for both front-end and back-end functionalities.
• Hands-on experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, SoapUI), ensuring robust integration testing.
• Expertise in CI/CD test automation – integrating and optimizing automated tests within Jenkins, SauceLabs, or similar environments to support DevOps pipelines.
• Strong experience with Git-based source control tools (e.g., GitHub, GitLab) and best practices for version control in test automation.
• Proficiency in test management tools (e.g., Jira) to plan, track, and manage testing activities, ensuring streamlined workflows and collaboration.
• Ability to lead and mentor automation engineers, promote test automation best practices, and drive improvements in quality engineering.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to troubleshoot automation issues and propose effective solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and articulate automation strategies to stakeholders.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and adaptable in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Detail-oriented with a strong ability to meet deadlines and guide teams under time constraints.
• Flexible and willing to adapt to shifting priorities as business needs evolve.

Required Experience & Education:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology or related fields
• 5-8 years of IT industry experience, with a focus on software testing and automation
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cypress or Playwright for automation testing
• 3-5 years of experience working with CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins), including the ability to configure and optimize pipelines for automated testing
• Experience working in an Agile development environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams

Desired Experience:

• Drupal 8/9/10 experience
• Experience with Acquia Cloud Platform
• Accessibility testing expertise (e.g., WCAG compliance, Evinced)
• Performance testing experience, particularly using JMeter
• Proven ability to mentor and train QA teams, driving automation adoption across teams
• Experience in managing stakeholders communication with internal and external clients
• Leadership and influencing skills
