Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has cumulatively served over 5 billion meals, strengthening education access and child welfare nationwide. Akshaya Patra also leads large-scale humanitarian responses during crises such as floods, cyclones, earthquakes, and the COVID-19 pandemic, providing cooked meals and targeted grocery kits to vulnerable communities. In addition, it conducts initiatives like incentivised vaccination drives in marginalized communities, aiming to protect lives and livelihoods over the long term.
Role Description The Senior Fund Raising Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for driving resource mobilization to support Akshaya Patra's core programs and humanitarian initiatives. This role involves identifying and cultivating prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, and institutions, and managing the complete fundraising cycle from prospect research and outreach to proposal development and closure. The officer will maintain strong donor relationships through regular engagement, stewardship activities, impact reporting, and events, ensuring sustained support and donor satisfaction. Daily responsibilities include coordinating fundraising campaigns, organizing donor visits and presentations, collaborating with program and finance teams to prepare accurate reports, and tracking fundraising performance against defined targets. The role also requires developing local networks, representing the Foundation at external forums, and contributing strategic inputs to enhance fundraising effectiveness in the region.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in fundraising, including experience in designing and executing fundraising strategies and meeting revenue targets.
- Strong knowledge of philanthropy and donor engagement, with the ability to build and nurture long-term relationships with diverse donor segments.
- Experience in planned giving and annual giving programs, including donor segmentation, campaign management, and retention initiatives.
- Proven stewardship skills, ensuring high-quality communication, impact reporting, and recognition for donors and partners.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with strong skills in proposal writing, documentation, and negotiation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, and to operate independently with accountability for outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Management, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline; a master's degree is an advantage.
- Prior experience in the nonprofit or social impact sector, particularly in education, child welfare, or hunger alleviation, is highly beneficial.
