Role Overview:
The Lead – Taxation will be responsible for overseeing the Company’s entire tax function, ensuring full compliance with Indian direct and indirect tax laws while optimizing the tax position in line with business objectives. The role involves strategic tax planning, litigation management, advisory to management, and acting as the key interface with tax authorities, auditors, and consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Direct Taxation
Overall responsibility for compliance under the Income-tax Act/ Rules.
Computation of taxable income and tax liability.
Advance tax, TDS/TCS compliances and returns.
Filing of income-tax returns and transfer pricing documentation (where applicable).
Tax planning and advisory for business transactions, restructurings, investments, and expansions.
Handling assessments, appeals, rectifications, reassessments, and related proceedings.
Managing tax audits and responding to notices from tax authorities.
2. Indirect Taxation
Oversee compliance under GST and other applicable indirect tax laws/rules.
GST returns, reconciliations, and audits
Input tax credit optimization and dispute resolution
Advising business teams on GST implications of contracts, pricing, and supply chains.
Handling departmental audits, investigations, and litigation under GST laws.
Reviewing and handling the customs related matters.
HSN classifications for correct rate and description.
3. Litigation & Regulatory Matters
Manage all tax litigations across forums including Assessing Authorities, Appellate Authorities.
Co-ordinate with attorneys/advocates in cases pending before Tribunals, High Courts, and Supreme Court.
Coordinate with external tax advisors, consultants, and legal counsels for any views or opinions.
Track ongoing cases, assess risks, and provide provisioning inputs as per accounting standards.
4. Advisory Role
Advise senior management on tax implications of strategic initiatives, M&A, fund raising, and cross-border transactions (if applicable).
Monitor changes in tax laws, judicial precedents, and regulatory developments and assess impact on the Company.
Drive tax efficiency while ensuring robust governance and compliance.
5. Team Management & Controls
Lead and develop the taxation team, including setting KRAs and ensuring timely deliverables.
Establish and strengthen internal controls, SOPs, and documentation for tax compliances.
Support statutory, internal, and tax audits.
Ensure the balances in books are clearly matching with the tax portal balances.
Qualification & Experience:
CA with at least 7 to 10 years of experience in Taxation ( Direct and Indirect) preferably from large corporate/group environment or reputed tax consultancy firms.
Experience in handling complex tax litigations, and liaison with authorities.
