Job descriptionThe Role
We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to join one of our Series A Enterprise/AI portfolio companies.
You'll lead a Voice AI platform. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you’ll own delivery, team development, and architectural direction across the platform - working alongside a Principal Engineer on technical strategy.
This is a role for someone who moves fluidly across levels: comfortable in a roadmap review with leadership one day, in a design discussion with engineers the next. We value leaders who stay close to the work and set the standard through participation, not just oversight.
What You’ll Do
Delivery & Execution: Own end-to-end delivery across both pods - from quarterly planning to production. Define milestones, manage risks proactively, and maintain quality without sacrificing pace.
Team Leadership: Hire, develop, and retain engineers and managers across Voice AI teams. Build a team with high ownership, clear growth paths, and a culture of direct, respectful collaboration.
Technical Direction: Co-own architecture decisions with the Principal Engineer. Bring delivery and business context to technical trade-offs. Stay engaged enough in the work that your judgment is grounded.
Customer & Stakeholder Management: Represent engineering in enterprise customer conversations - managing expectations, communicating trade-offs, and building trust with some of India’s largest financial institutions. Align closely with Product and Business teams on priorities and sequencing.
Organisational Scalability: Help design the engineering operating model - processes, norms, and rituals - that will carry the organisation through its next phase of growth.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years in software engineering, with 4-6 years in engineering leadership at a B2B SaaS or AI-focused company. - Demonstrated track record of owning complex, production-grade platform delivery end-to-end. - Experience managing both ICs and managers across multiple teams. - Technical depth in one or more of: Voice AI, real-time data systems, distributed systems, or AI/ML-powered products. - Comfortable and credible in enterprise customer conversations. - Strong communicator who can represent engineering clearly to product, business, and executive stakeholders.
Strong Signals
- You’ve owned a hard delivery - not just led it -You can speak to what broke, what you learned, and what you’d do differently. The accountability was yours. - You’ve built teams where strong engineers thrived - You can point to specific examples - people you hired, developed, or retained because of how you led. - You’ve made unpopular calls and stood by them - On timelines, on people, on technical direction. With reasoning, not just authority. - You believe engineering quality and team culture reinforce each other - You’ve managed accordingly - and the outcomes show it.
