They research trends, develop designs, select materials, and collaborate with teams to bring their visions to life, often managing production and marketing as well.
Key Responsibilities:Trend Research and Analysis:Staying up-to-date on current fashion trends, consumer preferences, and market demands. Design Development:Creating original sketches and designs for clothing, accessories, or footwear, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Material Selection:Choosing appropriate fabrics, colors, patterns, and embellishments for each design. Prototype Creation:Developing prototypes or samples of designs to test fit, construction, and overall look. Production Management:Overseeing the production process, working with pattern makers, seamstresses, and manufacturers to ensure designs are executed correctly. Collaboration:Working with other designers, pattern makers, production teams, and marketing/sales teams to bring designs to market. Marketing and Presentation:Presenting designs to stakeholders, participating in fashion shows, and potentially managing the marketing and sales of designs. Skills Required:Creativity and Design Skills: Strong artistic and design skills, including sketching, pattern-making, and knowledge of garment construction.
