Job Title: Infection Control Nurse

Overview: The Infection Control Nurse plays a crucial role in the healthcare sector, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors through the prevention and control of infections. This position is vital in promoting best practices in infection prevention, collaborating with various departments to implement effective policies and procedures, and providing education and training to healthcare personnel. The Infection Control Nurse conducts surveillance, identifies outbreaks, analyzes data, and develops strategies to reduce infection rates within the healthcare facility. This multifaceted role requires a deep understanding of microbiology, epidemiology, and clinical practices. Additionally, the Infection Control Nurse acts as an advocate for infection prevention initiatives, collaborating with public health organizations and participating in quality assurance programs. By maintaining high standards of infection control, this nurse contributes to improved patient outcomes and the overall operational efficiency of the healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention policies and protocols.
  • Provide training and education to staff on best infection control practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess and manage infection control risks.
  • Perform infection control audits and report findings to management.
  • Investigate and analyze infection outbreaks and implement control measures.
  • Develop educational materials for patients and families regarding infection prevention.
  • Stay current with local, state, and federal infection control regulations.
  • Prepare and present infection control reports to key stakeholders.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection prevention.
  • Maintain accurate records of infection control activities and outcomes.
  • Provide consultation to healthcare providers regarding infection control issues.
  • Assist in the development of emergency preparedness plans related to infection control.
  • Utilize data analytics to track infection trends and improve practices.
  • Act as a resource for infection control questions and concerns within the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current nursing license in the state of practice.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is highly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis related to infection control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and adapt infection control practices based on current research.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and infection control databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience in conducting staff education and training.
  • Capability to handle multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of public health regulations related to infection control.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in infection prevention.
