Role Overview
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Recording Studio team. You will be responsible for leading the development of high-performance, scalable backend systems that power Goldcast's recording and video processing platform.
The ideal candidate will drive technical excellence, make strong architectural decisions within their project scope, and help improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of our recording and media processing infrastructure.
In this role, you'll lead and deliver complex backend features involving multiple engineers, taking work from definition through design, implementation, testing, and production rollout. You will collaborate closely with product, design, QA, and SRE, and contribute to the reliability and performance of our production systems.
You'll work on initiatives across the Recording Studio surface area, such as improving recording session management, enhancing media ingestion and processing pipelines, optimizing HLS generation and trimming workflows, and strengthening integrations with Content Lab and Video Library.
In This Role, You Will:
- Lead and deliver complex backend features end-to-end as the feature lead
- Break down ambiguous backend and distributed systems problems into clear milestones and execution plans
- Participate in system design and write clear, pragmatic design docs
- Build and maintain backend services for recording session lifecycle, media ingestion, and asset processing
- Design and optimize video processing workflows, including chunk management, transcoding, and publishing
- Improve system observability, reliability, and failure recovery mechanisms
- Debug issues across services, storage systems, and processing pipelines, and drive fixes through to resolution
- Contribute to code reviews and team engineering practices
- Participate in the on-call rotation and help improve production reliability over time
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field from a top-tier institution (IITs, NITs, BITs, or equivalent).
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design
- Experience building and operating scalable backend systems in production
- Ability to lead medium-to-large features with ambiguity and drive them to completion
- Experience working with distributed systems and asynchronous processing
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- Experience with object storage systems (e.g., S3) and large file processing
- Experience with message queues or event-driven architectures
- Experience with video processing, HLS streams, or media pipelines is a strong plus
- Strong debugging skills and experience handling production incidents
