Description
Garrett Motion Engineering Solutions Pvt. Ltd. encompasses an R&D Centre a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Unit in Bangalore and a Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) Unit in Madurai. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Customs Act SEZ Act and the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 for the organisation at these locations
Key compliance responsibilities include :
1. Filing statutory returns with SEZ authorities at regular intervals
2. Submitting periodic returns to the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).
3. Filing SOFTEX forms for export transactions.
4. Ensuring adherence to Special Valuation Branch (SVB) requirements.
5. Managing customs clearance processes at designated ports.
This role plays a critical part in enabling seamless operations across the SEZ unit the R&D laboratories and the DTA facility in Madurai.
Key Job Areas of Responsibilities
1. Trade Compliance & Customs Strategy
- Evaluate the impact of SEZ Act FTP Customs Act and STPI provisions on Garrett.
- Monitor legislative changes and communicate implications to internal teams.
- Collaborate with Export Promotion Councils for industry-wide representation.
- Own and track the Customs cost center; analyze monthly variances.
- Contribute to policy updates for the Trade Compliance Director.
- Ensure AEO T2 compliance and expedite SVB Order for GMES.
2. Cross-Functional Coordination & Strategic Initiatives
Coordinate with Garrett Lab at IISc cross-functional teams and customs brokers to ensure regulatory compliance.Participate in internal audits broker scorecards self-assessments CHA selection and MOS reporting.Independently drive initiatives such as SVB AEO R&D incentives and e-archiving in Documentum.Support Free Trade Agreement evaluations.3. Export Compliance & Operational Excellence
Assess applicability of Dual Use (SCOMET) licenses for exports.Drive process improvements and train cross-functional teams.Ensure timely PO updates and GRIN support.Apply for SEZ validity extensions.File SOFTEX maintain BRC records and follow up for BRC receipts.4. Import Operations & SEZ Compliance Management
Coordinate with customs brokers forwarders and SEZ authorities.Maintain records of bonded and duty-paid imports.Manage temporary and bond-to-bond movements.Process service provider bills and GRIN for goods / service invoices.Track and coordinate payment of duties (BCD / SWS / IGST) and vendor payments.File SEZ returns and collate monthly data from cross-functional teams.Oversee SEZ online processes and debonding procedures.Education / Qualifications
Preferred if the candidate is a Post Graduate in in International Trade . Graduates who have diplomas in Indirect Taxation should also be fineThe graduation of the candidate could be in any field . Graduates without post graduation but with experience in SEZ / STPI units welcomeExperience Needed
10-12 years experience in a SEZ unit. Will be great if the experience is in a IT / ITeS unit but fine if the experience is in a production related SEZ as wellCandidates who have worked for in DTA / EOU / STPI with strong experience ( non necessarily all of it in SEZ ) also should be able to meet our requirementsCandidate should have good experience in import export clearance activitiesKey Skills and Knowledge
Strong functional knowledge called for of the Customs Act SEZ Act STPI rules Foreign Trade Policy (Policy and operations ).The function calls for a strong understanding of these legislations and periodic amendments.Required Experience :
